Breeds

There are over 50 breeds of rabbit and over 500 varieties. They vary greatly in size, colour and coat.

The various breeds of rabbit are split into two main groups, the fancy type and the fur types. The fancy group includes the breeds that are kept for exhibition purposes. They are bred for their appearance, including body shape or type, size, colour and pattern or coat markings. Both fur and fancy rabbit breeds are included in the group called commercial rabbits, which are raised for their meat.
